ES&T L1155

This lab is located on the L1 level of the Environmental Sciences and Technology Bldg. It is reserved at all times for classes of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.

L1155 is used for undergraduate geochemistry and field methods labs as well as for EAS 2600 lab.

The lab is equipped with a Varian AA240 atomic adsorption spectrometer and a Dionex ICS3000 ion chromatograph which allows for in-house analyses of the major cations and anions in natural water samples.  Other analyses such as dissolved silica are conducted with Thermo Scientific Genesys 10 uv-vis scanning and Milton-Roy Spectronic 501 spectrophotometers.  Field and lab measurements are performed using dissolved oxygen and ion specific electrodes, pH meters, conductivity meters, and stream flow meters.  Environmental sample preparation is also completed in house using both standard and ultra-centrifuges, soil sieves, and standard- and high- temperature ovens, and analytical balances.

10 computer workstations in L1155 are furnished with the  ArcGIS 10 and ArcInfo Workstation software suite which allows relevant site maps and spatial analyses to be generated for instructional/training purposes.
